Tottenham Court Road Tube Station Mosaics

Without fear of contradiction, I must contradictorially confess my liking for these tube platform mosaics. I do of course mourn the gutting of this and many of London's West End stations in the latter part of the last century, and their subsequent refurbishment in matching 'Operating Theatre' decor. But this particular face lift always seemed to have been worked on with extra love. And since its inception in 1984, I have grown to care for this as I would any art on delicate display.

These photos were taken between 2002 & 2004, and even then I could see signs of wear, neglect, and ignorant alteration, and even though it's no match for earlier edwardiana, these friezes have come into their own. I'd hate to see them go the same way as their predecessors, but the typical rot has already set in. Leave these works of art alone!!!
