Without fear of contradiction, I must contradictorially confess my liking for
these tube platform mosaics. I do of course mourn the gutting of this and many
of London's West End stations in the latter part of the last century, and
their subsequent refurbishment in matching 'Operating Theatre' decor. But this
particular face lift always seemed to have been worked on with extra love. And
since its inception in 1984, I have grown to care for this as I would any art
on delicate display.

These photos were taken between 2002 & 2004, and even then I could see
signs of wear, neglect, and ignorant
alteration, and even though it's no match for earlier edwardiana, these friezes
have come into their own. I'd hate to see them go the same way as their
predecessors, but the typical rot has already set in. Leave these works of art alone!!! Charles (of London Town)
